Ven. Dr. Dhammapiya was born at Suknachari on 15th June 1971 in Tripura State of India. He has been religious minded from very early childhood and forward looking in his approach. He is immovably firm in determination and soft at heart, full of loving kindness and compassion. The inborn religious bent of mind drawn him to monastic life and received full ordination on 6th December 1989.
After completing schooling in Tripura he left for Bombay for higher studies. Before going to Bombay he spent sometime in Assam, Sikkim, Bhutan, Nepal and Aurangabad with senior Buddhist monks and other scholars. He had detailed and analytic discussion on different aspects of life with them.
He has graduated Bachelor Degree (B.A. in Philosophy) from Wilson College (Bombay) in 1995. He then went to University of Hyderabad and secured 1st class 1st in Master Degree (M.A. in Philosophy). He is also awarded Ph. D. Degree from University of Bombay in 2001. He has visited Myanmar (Burma), Thailand and Sri Lanka for wider exposure and experience.
During his stay in Hyderabad, local people requested him to establish a Buddhist Monastery there. He has initiated a project to set up a Buddhist Cultural Complex in Hyderabad. It is in progress now and taken care by Ven. U Khemachara, his younger brother.
When he returned to his native place, many people including few renowned officials and ministers in the State Government requested him to stay back and do something for the disadvantaged community in Tripura. His love and compassion for disadvantaged tribal and other backward community instilled a sense of moral obligation to return debt to his Native State. He believes that education is the backbone for development and upward change of any community or society. With overflowing love and compassion he decided to start a school project (Dhamma Dipa School) for the children of disadvantaged tribal and other backward communities. He has founded Bahujana Hitaya Education Trust, a non-profit charitable association to run the school. The State Govt. has also recruited him as Asst. Professor in a Govt. Degree College near the Project. He now resides at the School Project and teaches in the college. He is dedicating his life in the service of humanity and spiritual development of Human Family as a whole.
